White background.

Panel 1.

A young man is laying on his back on a flat, armless couch, his eyes closed and his hands folded over his belly. He is drawn in a flat, cartoonish style reminiscent of 1930s pop art, with a shock of hair sticking up from the top of his head and a rounded face. He's wearing brown pants, a buttoned up tan shirt and red suspenders.

Someone offscreen says "Mr. Zane... You were about to tell me what brought you here."

Zane replies "A taxi. Ha ha." Then, more quietly, "No, I walked. I haven't seen any taxis."

Panel 2.

Zane and his psychoanalyst, Dr. Angstrom, are silhouetted; Zane is still lying down, and the only things not all in black are his suspenders, while Dr. Angstrom is sitting next to him in a  large chair, and only his squared off glasses are visible.

Dr. Angstrom says "We discussed your need to disguise emotion with 'humor — a common occurrence I have named an quote-unquote "offense mechanism."

Zane replies "Offense?"

Panel 3.

Dr. Angstrom is a more severe, angular-looking man, with square glasses that hide his eyes, a flat head, slight bags under his eyes and a small beard. He wears a blue tunic with a high collar and black pants. He's taking notes on a pad of paper.

He says "Freud uses the term quote-unquote "defense mechanism" and I can't claim I discovered that."

Panel 4.

Dr. Angstrom is offscreen, speaking to Zane who is still lying on the couch. He's shown in profile, and his eyebrows are drawn together and his face looks worried.

Dr. Angstrom says "But this is a place of safety, Mr. Zane... A place to explore your inner mind, its desires, its fears."

Zane says "I know. That's why I came."

Panel 5.

Close-up of Dr. Angstrom's face. He seems concerned.

He says "That's why you came to *me*, yes. But tell me... What brought you to the town of Broodhollow?

Panel 6.

The Broodhollow logo is a scene of a bleak prairie under a light green sky with a few light, wispy clouds. A tiny red train is just under the horizon on the left side of the image, heading to the right with a trail of smoke going over and behind it. The word "Broodhollow" spans the horizon in thin, sparse type.
